USIU Head coach who is KCB’s assistant head coach, veteran Dennis Mwanja’s side USIU won the Floodies varsity final by beating Strathmore in the Impala Floodlit varsity side finals.

His day was going to be better if and only if the bankers were to overcome the hosts, Resolution Impala Saracens in the Floodies finals.

The match started on a high tempo, as the gazelles pressured the bankers in the first feew minutes of the match. KCB’s resistance finally crumbled when Paul Oimbo touched down for Impala and Sammy Oliech converted.

KCB were struggling to find the crucial break through to the scoreboard and ten minutes into the match, newly signed Kenny Andola, failed to capitalize with a penalty kick from a promising position with what was to be his first points for his new club.

Impala were penalized after an infringement and Darwin Mukidza stepped up to give the visitors their first points with a well taken penalty goal.

Impala responded with a try which saw Sammy Oliech convert to give the Saracens a 14-3 lead.

Mukidza was again called to responsibility as fancied the chance to reduce the points difference with a well drilled in penalty to take matters to 14-6.

KCB fought back and their efforts paid when they scored a try and Darwin converted to narrow the point difference to one point. 14-13 was the half time score if favor of Impala.

KCB refused to give up and they were given a lifeline early in the second half when Darwin Mukidza made no mistake from a penalty goal that gave the banker the lead for the first time in the match.

Impala’s, Robert “Majei” Aringo was sent to the bin to serve ten minutes and KCB made the most of their numerical advantage scoring a try from a maul although Mukidza’s conversion effort flashed wide.

KCB would later cut the Saracen’s defense into pieces when they scored a try from another maul that could have been halted.

KCB retained the Impala floodlit title with a 26-14 win over Impala. This win meant that Dennis Mwanja won 2 trophies on a single day, something “WE” assume no other Kenyan has ever achieved in the history of rugby in Kenya.
