  • Sasha Mutai’s dream undeterred by the incoming heat

Kenya Rugby Union’s chairman’s seat aspirant, Alexander Sasha Mutai’s dream to perfect the KRU board if elected is still the priority as he shrugs of the incoming heat and confusion caused by the Kenya cup Caucus which recently endorsed his rival and the sitting chairman Richard Omwela for reinstatement on the position.

Mutai’s steadfast mind for revolution as broken down from his manifesto, has posed the biggest threat to his rivals, a fact that has seen the votes get an interesting division which at the end of the voting process, could work to his advantage.

The so called Kenya cup caucus undisputedly leaked its plans to reinstate Omwela as the chairperson has seriously done more damage than good as the Championship and Nationwide votes are now speculated to have shipped to Sasha’s camp after their Kenya Cup counterparts failed to honor their joint agreement.

Unknown to most delegates, all polls that have been conducted so far have Sasha in a big lead which if interpreted well, the delegates certainly should decode the will of the people is strongly calling for change in the union.

The former director in charge of sevens rugby and former Vice-chairman of the union, believes his election into the top seat will be a win-win situation for the entire rugby fraternity in Kenya especially at a point when the national sevens rugby team is struggling in the series among other under fails in the current board.

In an exclusive interview with Raga House a while ago, Sasha reflected on how revamping Safari sevens annual tournament into the world class tournament it used to be and maximize its profitability as much as possible will be a game change and a gift back to the players by the fans.

At a current time when conjectures have it that the World Rugby is currently considering to pull out from disbursing development kitty to us due to overweight reasons, Mutai believes that the right time for transformation is here.

Floating up the rugby super series to fortify the level of our local 15s rugby which will strut the national 15s team with the best in the country will certainly be a positive in a team which eyes to make a maiden entrance into the Japan 2019 Rugby World cup past continental rivals.

A more interesting part of his manifesto is whereby he discloses how he will clear the air with interested sponsors who have backed up due to undisclosed reasons arriving from transparency and trust issues.

As a director at the board in a period of four years between 2006-2010, he was the brain behind Kooga kit sponsorship, Virgin Atlantic sponsorship which is still being craved for alongside Kenya sevens structures for running and managing the team as well as the partnership with South Africa’s Western Province which Kenya Simbas are reaping big from head coach’ Jerome Paarwater’s services.
