Kenya started the day on the wrong footing going down 29-7 to China in the first match of the day.
Michael Shamia’s ladies struggled to create chances as the Chinese kept them at bay. Yuanyuan Lu and Shichao Sun each scored a brace for China as Kenya’s only try came from Janet Okello. Janet Owino drilled home the conversion.
Kenya Lionesses versus Netherlands
Going into this match, Kenya had to win in order to have their hopes alive for a cup quarters slot in the Women’s world rugby sevens qualifiers.
Van Rossum broke Kenyans heart as she went riot scoring a hatrick for the Dutch before KCB’s Janet Okello sprinted past the Netherlands defense to reduce the deficit. Netherlands had four successful tries and a conversion to send Kenya to the Bowl Semis. The game ended 22-7.
Kenya Lionesses versus Colombia
The lionesses gave their technical bench a reason to smile in their last match of the day with a 12-7 win against Olympics qualified Colombia.
Kenya Harlequin’s star, Sheila Chajira was sent to the bin early in the first half before speed star; Janet Okello “Shebesh” broke the deadlock. Janet Owino added the extras and Kenya lionesses went to the break with a 7-0 lead over Colombia.
Philadelphia Olando extended the lionesses lead in the second half with a 60 yards dash to the whitewash although Janet Owino’s conversion went wide to give Kenya a comfortable 12-0 lead.
Experienced fly half, Doreen Remour came in for her Mwamba club mate Janet Owino before Isabel Romero reduced the gap for Colombia with their first and only try of the day.
Kenya Lionesses will face Mexico at 1:58 pm EAT in the Bowl semi finals.
