These are some of the terms in rugby sevens that you will often hear : Advantage, Blind side , Free kick , Knock on , Line out , Try , Maul , Scrum , Ruck , Place Kick , Penalty Kick , Off side, Obstruction.
Advantage - This is when the referee lets the game to contunue without being interrupted as long as the ball is in play and there is no infraction. When the non offending team gains the ball, play can continue after an offence has been made.

 

Try -  This is a form of scoring  by touching the ball down in the goal area of the opponent . It is usually awarded five points.

Knock on - This is a situation where a player drops the ball towards the goal line of the opposing side.

Scrum - Also known as Scrummage , this is when  there is a tight formation between two teams getting ready for the ball to  be put into the tunnel between the front rows (prefferably by a scrum half) and then the ball is brought out into play.

Ruck - A loose formation around a player with the ball on the ground. (When a player is has been brought to the ground).

Maul - A loose formation around a player with the ball off the ground. (When a player is has not been brought to the ground).

Punt - This is a technique of kicking the ball before it has dropped to the ground.

Place kick - This is a technique of kicking the ball after it has been well placed on the ground.

Penalty kick - A place kick awarded to a team after an offence has been done by the oppenent.

Drop kick - A kick made by dropping the ball and kicking it as it bounces.

Free kick - A kick where a score might be made. It can be taken as a punt , a place kick , or a drop kick.

Blind side - This is the side that is closest to the touch line.
