Oxygen 8 company’s five million Kenya shillings official sponsorship for the National teams to take part in Olympics qualifiers was unfortunately postponed until next week on Wednesday following absence of the teams to be sponsored.

The teams to be sponsored include the National Rugby 7s team, Women’s volleyball and Weight lifting. This is also the first time rugby will feature in the Summer Olympics to take place in Rio, Brazil on August 5th to 21st while Paralympics will take place on the 7th to 18th September.

Kenya Rugby sevens team which is set to travel to Johannesburg, South Africa on November 12th had an initial budget of close to sixteen million shillings raising a cash deficiency alarm if more sponsors will not chip in good time to save the situation.

Francis K. Paul sec gen of the national Olympic committee who was present at NOC office, Mombasa Road talked of how grateful they are to Oxygen 8’s continued support. “Oxygen eight who are our sponsors and partners in our road to Rio, will sponsor us with this money which go towards assisting the national teams currently preparing for the Olympics qualification for the Olympic games 2016. Unfortunately we had to put on hold this function because we have some of the teams that were supposed to be assisting are not here and we want to put this on hold until next week when most of the teams we are assisting come back from their training centers. Rugby team is in Rift Valley for instance and we had earlier on proposed that we just have their officials here but this also without the players around will not be possible. Oxygen eight took our team to Samoa and they now want to take other senior teams to qualifications so we really appreciate their continued efforts to support us,” said Paul.
