Kenya sevens lost three key players in day one of the Canada 7s (Vancouver sevens) tournament.  Dennis Ombachi, Leonard Mugaisi and Billy Odhiambo were injured leaving Benjamin Ayimba and his technical bench with 9 fit players.

Kenya sevens did recover from yet another last-gasp loss they suffered against France in the Bowl semi-finals and a much-improved Russia took advantage to enjoy unexpected first-half dominance.

Tries from German Davydov, Eduard Filatov and Vladislav Sozonov make it 19-0 before Oscar Ouma grabs a lifeline for Kenya on the stroke of half-time.

Collins Injera failed to edge closer to the all-time series try-scoring as he has now crossed the white wash 222 times. Injera is only 8 tries shy of topping the World Rugby 7s series top try scorers list.
