Kenya Rugby fifteens Team manager, Mr Simiyu Wangila said during the Kenya fifteens squad naming that they've dedicated this weekend's Elgon Cup match against Uganda Cranes to the Late Erick “Stu” Situma and David "Dip" Francombe.
“Erick Situma was one of our players as Kenya 15s fullback.”
Apart from being a player, Erick did a lot of work for the Kenya rugby Union. He was a rugby development officer at KRU before he engaged with Confederation of African Rugby.
Situma also played a big role as head coach at Resolution Impala Saracens (where he also played) , Menengai Cream Homeboyz RFC and Top Fry Nakuru RFC.
“Erick Situma did a lot of contribution to Kenyan rugby. Wherever his soul will be, may God put it in peace,” Simiyu Wangila said.
Kenya is also mourning the death of David Francombe a former Nondies RFC player. David also played for Kenya fifteens. At some point in 1993, he was the Kenya 15s vice captain in the Rugby World cup Qualifiers.
David died in a plane crush.
“It coincides that these two players passed away at around the same period. It is a very sad moment for Kenya rugby for losing two former International players at the same time.”
“We are going to dedicate this weekend's game to our two internationals who have played a key role in development of Kenya rugby.”
