The Kenya Rugby Union has signed a sponsorship deal with betting company Sporpesa worth Ksh 607,000,000.

The deal will cover all the national teams including Kenya sevens, Kenya lionesses, Kenya chipu, Kenya sevens academy and Kenya simbas.

The 2016/2017 season of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series shall see the Kenya Sevens team wear jerseys bearing the Sportpesa name. 

Kenya Airways who were the sponsors of Kenya sevens until the end of the 2015-2016 HSBC World Rugby sevens series can continue sponsoring the team if they are interested.

The director of Communications at the Kenya rugby Union was excited with this sponsorship deal, said “Most fulfilling moment of my tenure as a KRU director is seeing the 0.6b partnership with sportpesa over the line and signed.”

KRU chairman Richard Omwela expresses his excitement after Sportpesa checks in with a hefty 0.67 billion Kenya shillings for KRU as the headline partner.
"It is one of the biggest in the history of the game, we are hoping better things come out of it in terms of making sure we not only prepare for games properly but also make sure they are kited and welfare taken care of. We are very excited about it."
