The scrumhalf carries the biggest responsibility for the success of the lineouts by reading the opposition lineout during the game.
The scrumhalf can implement two types of lineout throws:
- It is recommended that the scrumhalf should throw a first bullet type throw in a situation where the ball is going to the five metre mark (Front of lineout) if your team gets a good lift for its jumper.
- In a situation where the ball goes to the back of the lineout, the scrumhalf should use an arched type of lob throw. It gives a good attacking platform if the opposition backline is 10 metres away although it is dangerous and needs great skill as possession can be easily lost
