Richard Omwela has practised corporate law as a profession for over 37 years

He is an alumni of Kakamega High school .

Omwela is also an alumni of the University of Nairobi’s school of law

His journey in rugby began as a staunch fan of Mean Machine RFC back in the days and lived to see its formation back in 1977 while pursuing law at the University of Nairobi.

He later on joined Impala club as a member of the club when after campus and served as the club chairman between 1991 and 1995.

His first job at the union was as a director in charge of Fund raising because of his corporate background.
He later shot up to the Secretary of the Union position before serving as the chairman for two terms before he was ousted by Mwangi Muthee back in 2011.

Richard is the current KRU chairman from 2015 and he is a partner at Hamilton Harrison and Mathews after previously being the Managing partner.
