Egerton Wasps rugby 15s was after a rare achievement to disappoint Mean Machine in Nairobi last week for a chance to land a maiden first cup semi-finals scheduled for this weekend but an elimination last weekend did not give Wasps a chance to hang boots - but instead return to training ahead of new season.

Wasps skipper Barry Opondo recalls working in their best game plan and was sure of results but succumbing to defensive pressure unwanted errors were made and that kicked off their undoing at UoN grounds last weekend.

“Of course we are back to training and we are keen to iron out the mistakes that cost us the chance to feature in our first semis. We are getting ready for the Championship  season and sevens circuit,” Wasps skipper Barry Opondo told Shujaa Pride.

Speaking from the other corner, Mean Machine skipper described their focus for glory as long awaited as the two time Kenya cup champs hope to eliminate Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) in Kakamega this Saturday after cruising past Wasps.

“Egerton is a quality side that could have disappointed any team in the playoffs but Mean Machine is a different animal when it comes to playoffs and we had made a decision not to concede a point. This semis it won’t be different our opponent expects a contest and we’ll come loaded,” Mean Machine captain Kevin Daniel.

Local rugby resumed on Saturday with a sole quarterfinals clash at UoN grounds where hosting Machine beat Wasps 37-0 to set an away semis against MMUST in the highlight semi-finals while Northern Suburbs hope to stop Leos from returning back to Kenya cup away at Madaraka grounds.

Only the winners this Saturday will earn promotion to Kenya cup set to kick off this month while the losers will be rejoined with Egerton and USIU-A at the Championship arena.

This Saturday, Championship semis
