14 weekends of Kenya cup rugby action is in the offing as the top-flight league is set to kick off today, 8 teams focused on gaining maximum points to top the league for the sole bragging rights as the new 8-team competition will not have playoffs but rather crown only the first placed team after 14 rounds.
The pressure that comes with a must win weekend after weekend will be in play right from today February 27 as only one match will be hosted in Nairobi where the defending champs KCB is also cornered to have just one card to play - play to win as main rival Kabras offer MMUST their first Mashemeji derby on home soil.
The first two matches will see Strathmore Leos and MMUST as the league debutants look forward to their opener matches against the top two guns last season- KCB and Kabras.
Both matches will definitely give the two promoted sides crucial lessons and experience going forward. As Leos return to the top-flight league, MMUST is set to play a historic first Kenya cup match.
The hosts on the other side, winning by maximum points will have them contest on who takes first pole on day one, perhaps the team that takes first pole today will hold on for another 13 rounds to win the league on May 29.
The other two matches will see Kenya Harlequins and Blak Blad take their hunt to Nakuru whereby two-time Kenya Cup champion Wanyore will host Quins at NAC while Menengai Oilers host Blak Blad at the show ground to complete the four-match fixtures.
