Kenya  sevens rugby team head coach Innocent Simiyu plots to return to Madrid in the next edition and win it reaching to cup finals in the 2021 edition of the Madrid sevens Cup at the Campo Central grounds in Madrid, Spain.

“Our execution on kickoff was not consistent enough. Argentina tool us back to school on kickoff.  We need to review our system as it was exposed.  However, we are impressed with the new boys performance.  For them it is a personal journey they have started and hope they will keep working to be better, and I thank them for their commitment.” Shujaa head coach said in an interview with Mediamax Network Limited.

“Madrid 7s was a well-organized tournament.  I believe it has the potential of being a World Series tournament.  We hope we will be invited for future tournament   and hopefully win one It.” Namcos added.

Commenting on the most memorable moment in Spain according to Namcos, the hosts gave Shujaa their good moment of rugby as Kenya had to put up a big fight to win the match 19-17 at death.

“The Spain win was a good show of character by the boys. We dug deep and won it at the death.”

In the cup finals Shujaa succumbed to the attacking pressure by Pumas squad that won the regional Championship to commit both forced and unforced errors and a sinbin was issued to Billy Odhiambo and it proved to be costly as six Shujaa players were up against 7 rivals in the arena.

Argentina did not hesitate to reply back with a brace by Marcos Moneta both converted by Gaston Revol to give the Pumas a 14-0 lead.

Shujaa then conceded another three tries before finally Vincent Onyala managed to give Kenya the sole try of the match.

The build up to the cup finals for Shujaa was a good headline back at home as Kenya on day one beat Portugal 26-12 before, clawed USA 29-12 before the 19-17 thriller against Spain to leave Shujaa yet again unbeaten after day one of the tournament. Day two opener also saw Kenya beat Chile 15-5 to grab a crucial confidence heading into the last two fixtures against Argentina.
