The "ironman" Dancan Miller Lanya was born on a September 10th and that was the genesis of an inspiring story that climaxed in his triumph over bacterial menengitis by God's grace.
Lanya began his rugby career in Kakamega School as a scrumhalf who later transformed into one of the best backrows the school has ever seen. He is an individual with two different personalities on and off pitch. In the line of rugby duty he is an agressive, hardworking and spirit lifting backrow while outside the field he is a humble, down to earth and funny character.
Lanya loves music, rugby and socializing and treasures having friends around him.
Some of his rugby highlights are winning the KSSA national 7s championship and the East and Central Africa rugby 15s crown the same year hosted in Rwanda in 2008. Dan also won the Safaricom 7s Schools category with the western province team and finished as runners up in the Dubai 7s U19 category with Kakamega School. He has also featured twice in the prestigious Bamburi Super Series for the then known Western Buffaloes as a backrow and acknowledges that playing alongside Khayange "Tall" is one of his best rugby moments.
He captained Blakblad rfc and led them to promotion into Kenya Cup by winning the Nationwide league and also victory in the Impala floodlit University category. After his injury he served as Blakblad rfc chairman but was still part of the playing unit. During the time of his illness he was a fourth year student pursuing a Bachelors degree in Environmental studies. He developed menengitis as a result of wrong diagnosis on a lower back injury and is still recovering gradually yet to regain his eyesight.
