Shamas Rugby Foundation (SRF) has received a KSh 8.5 million grant to continue its Life Skills Program from a Europe based foundation.
Shamas will be seeking to expand the program to its new clinics in Tatu City and Kangemi come next year. This will allow previous participants to explore more in depth the application of life skills in their daily life.
The students will learn the following:
- Self-Esteem, Self-Awareness, and Managing Emotions and Stress.
- Various forms of Abuse (e.g. substance, sexual, physical etc.)
- Leadership and Employability (for secondary school students)
- Values (e.g. Respect, Discipline, Integrity, Teamwork etc.)
- Friendship Formation, Effective Communication, Empathy, Peer Pressure;
- Problem Solving, and Decision Making.
Other than team building activities and rugby training sessions, the program will also have Professional counseling services.
1000 primary and secondary school students participated in life skills camps held during school holidays in 2016 and 2017. Beneficiaries came from schools based in the settlement of Mathare, Kibera, and Eastlands.
